Slayer
Takes assigned monster tasks from eight slayer masters, gates protective slayer gear, and layers a five-tier boss-slayer track on top.
Slayer is the key to the monster list. Each level unlocks things you simply cannot swing at below the requirement, from cave bugs at 1 through abyssal demons at 76 to magma lords at 95. Masters hand you a target and a count, and kills only pay slayer XP while that target is on your list. Finished tasks pay points, and points buy runes, helmet pieces, leaf-bladed weapons and the boss slayer unlock.
Level 1 to 120
Collect a task from every master you can reach. You hold one from each at the same time and a kill counts against all of them at once, so a monster on two lists pays twice. Early kills are worth 50 or 250 and the grind is about volume. From the fifties on, single kills are worth thousands, and once black demons at 89 pay 6,000 each you gain slayer far faster than the combat skills doing the killing.
- Spria in the Lumbridge catacombs 1 to 15
Cave bugs and crawling hands for 50 a kill, Zamorakian monks for 35. She stops talking to you the moment you pass 15 slayer, so clear what you can out of her while she will still deal.
- Turael's town tasks 1 to 25
Turael stands in seven towns, Burthorpe, Lumbridge, Al Kharid, Port Sarim, Seers' Village, Burgh de Rott and Shilo Village. He starts with ordinary monsters that carry no requirement, cows, goblins, bears, scorpions and rock crabs, and those pay a fifth less. His list grows with you though: rock slugs at 18, cockatrice at 25, basilisks at 40, jelly at 42, turoth at 55, skeletal wyverns at 71 and black demons at 89. He is worth revisiting all game.
- Vannaka in the Edgeville dungeon 10 to 30
Giant spiders, thugs at 10, zombies at 18, skeletons at 20, hill giants at 26, hobgoblins at 28, poison spiders at 29 and deadly red spiders at 30, most of them inside the dungeon he is standing in. Small XP per kill, but the tasks are short and the monsters are already in front of you. He also holds chaos druids at 60 and black demons at 89.
- Raff in the Taverley dungeon 20 to 60
One dungeon, most of his list living in it. Cave crawlers pay 250, banshees 750, icevelds 1,100, cave slimes 1,650, ankou 1,750, infernal mages 2,200 and moss giants 2,350. Buy ear muffs for 50 points before you take banshees. Higher up he still has chaos druids at 3,000, kurask at 3,200, brine rats at 3,600, fire giants at 3,650, corrupted ents at 4,000 and black demons at 6,000.
- Catolax in the Pollnivneach dungeon 40 to 70
Another single dungeon with the whole list inside it: smokevelds 1,250, ankou 1,750, demons 2,500 at 50 slayer, greater demons 3,660 at 61 and dust devils 4,020 at 65. A face mask, 50 points, makes dust devils survivable.
- Achtryn and the Slayer Tower 60 to 89
Achtryn stands in Canifis and inside the Tower itself, and the back half of his list all lives in that one building in Morytania: greater demons 3,660, spirit warriors 3,780, cyclops 4,020, gargoyles 4,260 at 75 and abyssal demons 4,560 at 76.
- Black demons and boss tasks 89 to 120
Black demons pay 6,000 a kill and Turael, Vannaka, Raff and Krystilia all assign them. Sumona unlocks for 750 points and hands out bosses: God Wars generals 4,000 a kill, the kraken 3,000, the King Black Dragon and Kalphite Queen 2,500, the giant mole 2,250, Dagannoth Rex 2,000.
Stack your masters
You hold one task per master, up to eight at once, and every kill counts against every task naming that monster. Two masters on the same monster is double XP, three is triple. Monsters with no slayer requirement pay a fifth less, and anything killed in the wilderness pays 30% more.
Krystilia in Edgeville only counts kills made in the wilderness, but she triples both the size of the task and the points it pays. A big task from her runs to roughly 150 kills for 9 points.
Points, tokens and the shop
A small task pays 1 point, a medium 2, a big 3, and the shop opens from the same menu as your task. Slayer tokens are 4 for 20 points and one token cancels or extends a task. The heavy buys are the boss slayer unlock at 750, the rune pouch at 500, the nose peg at 250, the spiny helmet at 150 and the bonecrusher necklace at 100.
The slayer helmet is made, not bought: a black mask from cave horrors plus the face mask, ear muffs, nose peg and spiny helmet, right clicked on a crafting table with 55 Crafting for 1,500 crafting XP. It needs 60 slayer to wear and adds 15% damage against whatever is on your task, melee only until you buy the upgrade, which asks for 75.
Boss slayer
Sumona stands by the Warriors' Guild and will not speak to you until you buy the 750 point unlock. Her tasks are 4 to 8, 8 to 16 or 16 to 50 kills of a single boss, she never repeats the boss you just finished, and she only offers bosses in the tier that matches your combat level. Three boss tasks an hour is the cap.
Boss tasks pay their own currency, spent on imbued Fremennik rings at 60 each, the upgraded slayer helmet at 40, holy sandals at 25, the dragontooth necklace at 60 and the rune pouch upgrade at 30.
Worth knowing
- /task lists every task you are holding and both point balances.
- Turoth and kurask cannot be touched with an ordinary weapon. Buy a leaf-bladed sword or spear for 75 points first. Turael assigns turoth, in the Fremennik slayer dungeon; Raff assigns kurask, in the Taverley dungeon.
- Task kills can drop Larran's key. It opens the big chest in the deep wilderness, near the wilderness agility course.
- Ear muffs blunt banshees, the face mask blunts dust devils and the mirror shield blunts cockatrices, while the spiny helmet and nose peg add flat armour against anything on your task. The slayer helmet rolls the lot into one hat.
