RuneScape in Minecraft
CraftScape is a RuneScape-style MMORPG built inside Minecraft: 24 skills, 57 quests, 363 kinds of monster and a player-run Grand Exchange, all of it reachable from an unmodified Minecraft client and running since 2012.
Connect an ordinary Minecraft client to play.gameslabs.net and you are standing in Lumbridge. There are 24 skills to train, 57 quests to work through, 363 kinds of monster to fight and an order book other players are trading on. All of it was written for this game: the skills, the 3,534 drop entries sitting behind those monsters, and 18,474 lines of dialogue.
Minecraft is the client and the world. Everything else runs server-side on a framework we wrote: hit rolls, XP curves, quest state, the Grand Exchange, every interface. That is why there is nothing to install. The game logic never reaches your machine, and the only download is the resource pack the server hands you on the way in.
It has been running since 2012 under GamesLabs SASU, a French company, and for most of that time it was called Minescape. Nothing was reset when the name changed: same world, same accounts, same team. It is still being added to today.
Three things worth knowing
Not a mod or a modpack
Vanilla Minecraft, Java or Bedrock. No launcher, no Forge, no Fabric, no client-side files to keep in sync with the server. You add an address and connect, the same way you would join any other server.
Not a slice of the game
The whole skill list is in, all 24 of them trainable to 120, and the 57 quests carry 90 quest points that later content is gated behind. Past them sit Barrows, the God Wars Dungeon and 63 waves of Fight Caves.
Running since 2012
A fan project, made by people who grew up on the game it is modelled on and rewritten from scratch four times since. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Jagex, Mojang or Microsoft.
How much game there is
What carries over from RuneScape
The systems a RuneScape player goes looking for first, and what each one was built into here.
Where it deliberately differs
Four places where copying RuneScape exactly would have made a worse game.
Every skill runs to 120
Not 99. The XP curve is built for 120 end to end, 1,348 unlocks are spread over the whole range rather than bunched at the bottom of it, and the skill capes are relabelled to match.
There is a 24th skill
Exploration, which has no RuneScape equivalent. It pays for finding things rather than repeating them: every new entry in the collection log is worth Exploration XP, and a skill job you would rather not do can be cancelled for exploration points.
Construction gives you a world
Minecraft is a building game, so a house felt small. Every player gets a private, persistent island world they build on and can open to visitors.
Bedrock is not the cut-down version
Every Java interface has a native Bedrock counterpart, so both clients share one world rather than one degrading to the other. That is 26 interfaces built twice over, so a console or a phone plays the same game on the same stats as a PC.
The ones people ask first
Is there a RuneScape MMO in Minecraft?
Yes, this is it. CraftScape is a RuneScape-style MMORPG that runs inside Minecraft, free, on play.gameslabs.net. It has been running since 2012 and is still being built.
How much of RuneScape is actually in it?
24 skills, every one of them trainable to level 120. 57 quests worth 90 quest points, with 18,474 lines of dialogue behind them. 363 kinds of monster, 36 of which count as bosses. 2,204 items, 1,815 of them tradeable on the Grand Exchange. Slayer, clue scrolls, the Wilderness, Barrows, the God Wars Dungeon and the Fight Caves are all in.
Do I need mods, Forge, Fabric or a modpack?
No. You connect with an ordinary Minecraft client. All the game logic runs on our server, so there is nothing to install and nothing to keep up to date. The only download is the resource pack the server sends you as you join.
Is it free to play?
Yes. There is no subscription and no paid tier of the game. You need a Minecraft account, which you already have if you own Minecraft.
Is it based on Old School RuneScape or RuneScape 3?
Old School. The skill list, the combat maths and the quest roster are OSRS-shaped. Where we depart from it we do so deliberately: skills run to level 120 rather than 99, and there is a 24th skill, Exploration, that OSRS does not have.
Can I play on console or mobile?
Yes, through Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Both editions connect to the same world, and every interface has a native Bedrock form rather than a chat-based fallback. Link a Bedrock account to a Java one and it plays on the same stats.
Has the world ever been wiped?
Not for a long time. There were wipes in the early years, the last of them when the current engine went live in 2019. Nothing has been wiped since, and we do not intend to wipe again. An account left alone for years is still where its owner left it, and the rename changed nothing about that.
Is this made by Jagex, or official in any way?
No. CraftScape is a fan project by GamesLabs SASU and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Jagex, Mojang or Microsoft. It shares none of their code: everything here was written from scratch on our own server framework.
I remember this as Minescape. Is it the same game?
The same game, renamed. We built it under the name Minescape and released under it in 2012; a second, unrelated server later took the name, and we moved to CraftScape rather than keep arguing about it. Same world, same accounts, same team. There is a page at /minescape/ if that is the name you came looking for, and the dates and the full account are on the rebrand page.
Where to start
Java or Bedrock, no mods and no launcher. Add the address, accept the pack on the way in, and pick the game from the lobby. New accounts start on Tutorial Island.
